Failure to launch

Since the death of my sister I have had a failure to be able to execute the design to say what I needed to say. I created the sock da can you hear me and the big honking thing and still have not had the chance to say how I feel about life in a design. So this next design will be life

The wind that shakes the barley

This is the second sock for June, the first one song for Ireland was so easy to design and the mosaic musical notes were fun. The wind that shakes The wind that shakes the barley is a sad song a man takes the woman he loves out to the fields of grain to say goodbye because he's going to war and she shot and killed. They are going to hate the beginning of the sock but you need all those stitches to make that ruffle look like waves of grain just beach blown by the wind I don't want this sock to be about the war I want this sock to be about the love . The sock needs to have movement so a sheath the barley will move across the front of the sock. There will also be a small beaded section with grain.

Grace

As with most Irish Ballads it is about the sacrifice. He is going to be hung for being IRA, she is marrying him. There would be no wedding, no family, no dress, no dream so I had to give her this in a sock. The back of the sock becomes the bouquet , the front the veil. The beads on the front are the beads in the veil. The flowers on the back are gathers together for the bouquet. They would be wild flowers not hot house so I chose daisies. I made this sock about a bride , not about the troubles or the IRA member , but about the bride so in love that even if only for a night ,even without a proper wedding night she marries him knowing it is a moment of sadness as much as a moment of joy.

And the finished photo of grace:

Whiskey In The Jar

As I was goin' over the far famed Kerry mountains,
I met with Captain Farrell, and his money he was counting.
I first produced me pistol and I then produced me rapier,
Saying: "Stand and deliver, for you are a bold deceiver!".
Musha rin du-rum do du-rum da, Whack for my daddy-o,
Whack for my daddy-o, There's whiskey in the jar
This song has been covered by a vast variety of people from The Dubliners (traditional Irish) to
Metallica and American Hard Rock Group. It is the story of a highwayman who, after robbing a military or government official, is betrayed by a woman; whether she is his wife or sweetheart is not made clear.
So how does one make that into a sock, First of all the yarn, my friend Karin has once again outdone herself
with a yarn called Freckles in the colour Sunset Over Donegal. I could go thematic and make the sock with whiskey jars and names of Irish whiskey but I don't like that so what I will do is go very traditional with a few twists. The sock will e designed for a man.Advantage to that being more stitches for more design possibilities.

This is a freebie for tax hay, fingerless gloves with fun beading. So where do I start I am going to do a ruffle go into ribbing then beading , the pattern . Ok this should fun. I think the beading should mean something. Conceptually it has to be fun.

Spiderwick

The Spiderwick Chronicles
Sock 1
The Field Guide
Fist of all these sock are are for boys but I want them unisex because children read them not just boys.
So the books are about the Grace Children.
In the first book Mallory the oldest wakes up with her hair in intricate knots tied to the bed. Will build on this with knotty cables.
i am going to try and chart out the Brownie Thimletack but i would be so much colourwork perhaps a bonus back pack.

Emeraldlicious

How lucky is the world that Emerald green is the colour of the year. Can't say love it enough times. One the fourth sok based on the licious books pinkalicious goes to the park to find it littered and nasty.she crafts a magical wand and makes the park beautiful again  so how do I translate that after all beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.i chose to go the sweet route wth flowers and such. Toe up or top down to be decided. So it starts with a lace cuff where the beads are so dark you can't see their beauty, stitches are picked up and in the round, and then the magic begins with beaded flowers
